As we grow up and see more of the world, we come to learn about other cultures and their quirks. What people often fail to see, is that their own attitudes and beliefs also stem from their own culture's particular quirks. When one says that "this culture tends to be lazy", one fails to see that valuing labor as a virtue is nothing more than his own cultural quirk.

I think it is important to understand these things. It does not mean that one needs to stop believing certain things because they are cultural quirks, one can understand valuing labor as a quirk, yet still value labor. But the understanding itself changes the perspective. One chooses to value labor out of choice, and no longer values labor blindly just because one can't see otherwise.

Certain kinds of religious people are often made fun of because of their blind faith. Some of those who make fun of them are really doing the same thing. Maybe not the same in their belief of God/gods, but unless they understand and choose, they are really having blind faith in their own way, be it the value of careers, wealth, relationships, patriotism, loyalty, labor, right and wrong and so on.
