Apparently, external circumstances don't bring you happiness.

The book talks about a baseline... people who strike the lottery eventually get used to it and return to their baseline moods. People who meet disaster get used to it. An article on psychology I read called this "habituation".

So it's important to distinguish between "pleasure" and "happiness". Having all your wildest dreams come true, is most likely, a "pleasurable" thing.

What makes you happy is your state of mind, how you look at things.
